Your Most Impactful Class

Class Introduction

Gospel Insight

Doctrine and Covenants 88:118 reminds us to “seek learning, even by study and also by faith.” In MCom 320, we do both. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we strive to become more than just effective communicators—we seek to become Christlike communicators.

President Russell M. Nelson, in his April 2023 General Conference talk Peacemakers Needed, shared:

“The gospel net is the largest net in the world. God has invited all to come unto Him… There is room for everyone. However, there is no room for prejudice, condemnation, or contention of any kind.”

Your words matter. Whether written or spoken, in person or online, your communication reflects who you are—and who you follow.

The Lord’s question might be the following:

Does your communication invite, include, and uplift like I would?

Project Roadmap

This introductory lesson sets the stage for everything you'll learn and practice in MCom 320. You’ll build the foundation for a course designed to help you become:

  • A clear, confident communicator
  • A trusted leader
  • A disciple of Christ who communicates with purpose

This lesson includes the following:

1. Course Overview: What to expect from MCom 320 and how it fits into your academic and career journey

2. Communication and Leadership: How communication fuels leadership

3. Spiritual Framing: Why communication matters in a gospel context

4. Feedback Culture: How feedback will help you grow in this course

Why This Project Matters

Reason #1: Communication is your most transferable skill.

No matter your major or career path, the ability to write, speak, and connect effectively is the skill that sets you apart.

Reason #2:Communication builds trust—and trust builds influence.

You cannot lead without trust, and you cannot earn trust without strong, sincere communication.

This brand statement becomes the backbone of your resume, the story behind your LinkedIn summary, the elevator pitch you use in interviews, and the foundation for your cover letters and networking emails. If you take this assignment seriously, everything else in your job prep will be easier. Already employed? This assignment sets you up to land the next role down the road.

Reason #3:This course will change how you see yourself.

Students consistently report that MCom 320 was their most practical—and most transformative—class. It builds confidence. It opens doors. It invites you to think, speak, and write with more purpose.

“I got my internship because of this class.”

“This course gave me my voice.”

“It changed my career and my confidence.”
