Circle the keywords or main concepts from your research question.
What are some synonyms, main concepts, or related concepts from the keywords you’ve listed above? You might also want to include broader and narrower concepts related to your keywords and your research topic. Write down as many as you can for each of your main search terms.
Create several possible search statements using Boolean operators AND, OR, NOT (*) to put together a search statement. Write down several versions so you can try different ones out. For more practice with Boolean operators use our supplemental learning tool below.
Try out at least 3 search statements in the library database Academic Search Ultimate (you can find it on the HBLL Research Starter Guide). Try both the basic and advanced search options.
Record how many results you got for each search statement.
